  • Because of the economy both she and her husband were out of jobs so she had to come up with something.
  • She loves to sew and made a few adult bibs for her grandmother in the past.

  • She took a quiz on the SBA website to determine if she was an entrepreneur.
  • She was not sure at the beginning but with all the help she got along the way she is confident that she is.
  • She started taking classes at the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center.
  • The classes cost about $25 - $40 and some are free.
  • She then met with a free counselor and she helped her get her first sale.
  • She also got a scholarship to take a 10-week course from the Kauffman Foundation called Fast Track New Venture.
  • You go three hours one day a week and it takes you through all the problems of running a business.
  • The course cost about $700 but she thinks that everyone on the class got a scholarship.
  • The class brought in accountants, lawyers and other experts to learn from.
  • CEED: Center for Employment and Economic Development also helps her with her business.
  • She gets free assistance and consulting to help her business grow and it's free.
