Actually if your business qualifies for 8(a) status which is a business development program created to help small disadvantaged businesses compete in the market place, then you can get access to some great surplus property for free or cheap from your state.
Millions of dollars of state and federal surplus property are redistributed to government entities through the Surplus Property Program for each state.
Items such as vehicles, shop equipment, office furniture, computers, hospital equipment, generators, road equipment, and more are available at surplus property centers. The program also assists state government in the disposal of surplus property through a variety of means, including Internet auctions.
Three major groups can receive surplus property for free. The first is Public Agencies such as cities and towns, public libraries schools, and museums, volunteer fire departments, and more. The second group is non-profit institutions, such as health centers, colleges, hospitals, child care centers, and programs for the elderly. The final group is Small Businesses who are enrolled in the Small Business Administration’s 8A program. These businesses must be owned or controlled by one or more person who can provide evidence having been socially or economically deprived of the opportunity to develop and maintain a competitive position in the economy. For more information contact the SBA at www.sba.gov
The general public can purchase property through internet auctions sites, retail stores at each center, or through typical auctions. To learn what is available in your state and how you can purchase these items, contact the office listed below.
In addition to the State Surplus sources, every Federal government agency has surplus property. Members to the Club can access this information in the Living Expenses category in a sub-category titled “Does This Money Belong To You?” You can find out about houses, cars, jewelry, ships, confiscated property, and even horses and bison! There is something for everyone. Many of the agencies offer their goods online or through local auctions. Check it out.
